July takes us to the water.
This month we're gathering at Foster Falls in Southwest Virginia, where the New River runs slow and the rocks have been smoothed by a long, patient current. We chose it for the reason you'd guess. There is something about moving water that asks nothing of you. It just keeps going, and it lets you be exactly where you are.
Ladies in the River is what it sounds like. A summer evening, a river, and a circle of women who came as they are.
Some of us will wade in. Some will sit on the bank with bare feet in the shallows. Some will stay dry and watch the light move on the water. All of that counts. There is no version of this night you have to perform to belong to it.
If you'd like to be photographed, there will be space for that, held privately and gently. If you'd rather not be in front of a camera at all, that's welcome too. Listening counts as presence. So does stillness.
Bring what makes you feel held. A dress you love. A swimsuit. Cutoffs and an old t-shirt. Whatever feels like you on a warm night by the water.
We'll keep the details simple and send them to everyone who's coming, so you know what to expect before you arrive.
This is a contained space. Your privacy is respected here. You're welcome to come exactly as you are.
